Extra tips for Resumes
If possible, submit your Resume in PDF form.
If you use Word, it is possible you might use special formatting. Certain fonts are not available on all versions of Word. So when you send your documents to prospective employers, it is possible they might not see your resume exactly as you do.
Adobe PDF's contain embedded fonts and therefore appear the same wherever they are read.
If you must use Word, do not send your documents around in docx form, the standard for Microsoft Office 2007. Many users have not upgraded to Office 2007 and are not able to immediately read what you've sent. Be sure to save documents through "save as -> word 97-2003 Document".
For a static point of contact, we suggest all UCSD students get a Gmail account ASAP. A UCSD email address expires upon graduation.
You can sign up for the Alumni Association and keep your address @alumni.ucsd.edu.
Your Gmail address should be generic and include either your first or last name. Gmail accounts have chat and Google Documents; they also work quickly and add a hint of respectability.
Why Gmail? One of our founders works at Google. He doesn't mess around.
